Cryotherapy

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy or cryosurgery is a safe and effective procedure that is used to freeze and destroy benign skin lesions. At Revive Medical Aesthetics we use the Cryopen to perform these treatments, a world leader in cryosurgery.

Cryotherapy involves using liquid nitrous oxide and cold temperatures to destroy the tissue by freezing the cell fluid which in turn forms ice shards that rupture the cell membrane and in turn destroying the cell and lesion. The cryopen is precise, therefore avoiding healthy surrounding tissue.

Cryotherapy is a quick treatments as the lesion can be treated in minutes. It requires no anaesthetic and has minimal to no scarring. There is no downtime (except protecting the area from damage and uv rays) and patients can return to normal activities after treatment.

The NHS does not routinely remove benign skin lesions so this is the ideal service to use.

The cryopen can be used to treat:

  • Skin Tags

  • Seb Ks

  • Warts

  • Veruccas

  • Sun Spots

  • Actinic Keratosis

  • Cherry Haemangiomas

At Revive Medical Aesthetics we also offer a Mole Screening Service with Map my Mole if we or you have any concerns regarding a mole or lesion.

FAQs

When will I see results?
How long does the treatment take?
Are there any side effects?

You can expect to see results in 4-6 weeks. You may need a second or third treatment depending on the lesion being treated.

Usually around 15 minutes, but depends on the number of lesions being treated.

No, not really. The area treated will go red, then black as it scabs over and then pink/white until healed.

Where can I have the treatment?
Is it painful?
Can I have treatment on the same day?

Anywhere that the our nurse feels is appropriate to treat.

No, there is a slight sensation of coldness as treated then a little itchy like a nettle sting but soon settles.

It is always recommended to have a consultation first and then a “contemplation period” where you can make an informed decision. However, it is possible to discuss and treat on the same day if preferred.

Is it safe?

Yes, but you will be fully assessed by a nurse first.
